Veterinary Pharmacy Education Programme
Professional Certificates

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society offers two professional certificates under this programme. These are designed to provide the necessary basic training for pharmacists and their staff who are already, or may wish to become, involved in the veterinary medicines sector. For SQP training see below.

The Certificate in Companion Animal and Equine Health Care includes modules in Public Health associated with human-animal interaction, companion animals and equines. Business management is also included. The course comprises two teaching days, a workbook and two assignments for each module. It runs over a 6 month period from January each year.

The cost of the CA&E certificate teaching programme is fully inclusive of accommodation, catering, all course materials, examining fees and a copy of the course textbook.




The Certificate in Large Animal Health Care includes sections on cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry. The course comprises five days residential teaching of lectures, workshops and visits to livestock units. In addition, candidates are required to complete a total of 30 hours experience in an appropriate large animal environment (veterinary surgery, veterinary pharmacy, merchants etc). Assessment is by written and oral examinations, normally held in October.

The cost for the LA certificate teaching programme
is fully inclusive of accommodation, catering, all course materials, examining fees and a copy of the course textbook.



Candidates who are interested in the University College Diploma and SQP qualification and the Post graduate Diploma and Masters in Veterinary Pharmacy are referred to the RPS/HAUC programme.


Continuing professional development (CPD) Participants may choose to take some or all of these certificate courses in fulfillment of their CPD requirements Suitable exercises will be provided in place of the assessments. Costs on application.
